We started at 6am and eventually left the park at 6pm.  We were not allowed out of the vehicles at any time - so a touch of numb bum this afternoon!!

Day 2 - Fish market and a Boat trip

An early start today to see the fish market.  Quite a few yellow fin tuna amongst other smaller fish.  We were only there for 45 minutes but the smell lingered!!

A few prawns.

The baker doing the rounds.

Next stop was the boat trip.

Day 1 - Elephants

We had a 2 hour drive to the Pinnawala Elephont Sanctuary.  First stop was the see all the elephants enjoying the cool  river water.

We asked about the difference between an Asian Elephant and African Elephant.  The most obvious is the Asian Elephant has a light brown pigment on the ears, face and trunk.  Asian Elephants are also smaller and ground feeders.  Only 5% of Asian Elephants have tusks.

After lunch we went to a private Elephant place (Happy Elephants) to withness them close up.
When we got there there the heavens opened and it poured down

An Eagle spotted in a palm tree.

Elephants eat anything.  We had a demonstrartion on how to eat a 4 foot palm tree log!

Time for a wash down.

Day 0 - Travel

I flew via Abu Dhabi as I wanted to see what it looked like after having first worked there 50 years ago.  Could hardly recognise the place from the air!

Arrive in Sri Lanka as the sun was setting.  Marvellous view from my room.

Day 6 Golden Circle

An early start this morning as we headed back towards Reykjavik.  We did stop for coffee enroute and observed this glorious sunrise at 10:30 am.

After our coffee stop we drove around the Golden Circle.  The main attractions being the Gulfoss waterfalls, and Geysers.

In the evening we tried to get near the infamous Blue Lagoon, but unfortunately a new fissure opened up in the car park and all we could see were the red flames 10 KM away!

As you drive around Iceland, all the grave yards were lit up.  Spooky!

Back at the hotel, I decided to go for a walk to the beach as I really wanted to get a photo of the Northern Lights.  Nothing could be seen with the naked eye, but setting the camera's exposure to 20 seconds revealed all!

That's it folks.  Time to fly back home!!

Day 8 - Driving

Today we had a day off with a drive between resorts.  As you can imagine there are lots of Paddy fields in Sri Lanka. What I did not expect...
